The Southern Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl was held Saturday, February 6th at Valdosta State University. Liberty County was proudly represented by six teams!
Six elementary schools faced each other in five rounds of competition to earn the right to proceed to the Division B Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. At the end of five exciting rounds Joseph Martin Elementary School won first place. Matilda Harris Elementary School won second place. Brittin Elementary School won third place. Button Gwinnett Elementary, David L. Rainer Elementary, and St. Simons Elementary were awarded trophies for participation.
Seven middle schools participated in six rounds of questions and one bye round, due to the odd number of teams. The competition was fierce. St. Mary's Middle school won first place. Camden Middle School won second place. Midway Middle School won third place. Lewis Frasier Middle, Newbern Middle, Thomas County Middle, and Glynn Middle were awarded trophies for participation.
Seven high school squared off in a fierce battle to take first and second place. Each school competed in six rounds of questions and one bye round, due to the odd number of teams. In the end, the only two high schools to advance were from LIBERTY COUNTY! Liberty County High School earned first place. Bradwell Institute earned second place. Brunswick High and Sol. C. Johnson High School tied for third place. Groves High, Thomas County High, and Brunswick High, Camden High earned trophies for participation.
Joseph Martin Elementary, Liberty County High School, and Bradwell Institute will travel to Southeast Bulloch High School February 27th to compete in the Divisional B HRRB. The bowl will begin at 12:00 noon. Come out and cheer for our Liberty County schools!
