netTrekker- How are You Using It?

Describe how you have used netTrekker in a lesson recently with students.

  1. Yes! I have used nettrekker with multiple classes this year. I have been doing a copyright lesson by showing a Brainpop video on copyright and then showing students how to use nettrekker and then cite those sources they find on power point. Thanks!

  2. I haven't done a recent lesson as I've been doing one-on-one AR conferences with all the students in the school. I have planned a teacher session as a part of the PLU technology class I am doing this year. After the teacher session I hope to do classes with their students to spread the word about NetTrekker.

  3. Although I haven't used it yet, I have a class coming in next week working on American Lit., and I will recommend its use to them when I make my presentation.

  4. We have added NetTrekker to our Introduction for the English Research papers. We have shown students how to access it using the generic student log in and the link from our school Library catalog.

  6. I haven't done anything in the Media Center, but I have had several teachers to tell me over the last several weeks that they are using it with research projects in their classrooms. Also, some grade levels are collaborating with each other using lesson plans and ideas from there as well.

  7. I have done a couple of introductions to nettrekker with a 4th and a 5th grade class. The 5th grade class is researching famous people from the Civil War and the teacher wanted me to share places the students could find information about their person. We talked about nonfiction books, encyclopedias, etc. and then I went to the internet, I usually start with talking about the benefits and the disadvantages of the internet and warn them to be careful using it. We discuss what makes a good web site- neatness, correct spelling, who created it, etc. Then we look at one of their subjects on Google and see the thousands and millions of hits there are. We then look at nettrekker and GaLiLeo and see the number of sites is less. We talk about the rating scale, how to change the readability level, and the voice. One thing the teacher wanted me to go over also was how to do a bibiliography. There are good examples if you type in bibliography on nettrekker.

  8. I haven't used this site with students; however, I have shared it with the teachers. I also sent out reminders about the program.

  9. LFMS is waiting for technology to come and make a presentation to our faculty about Nettrekker and how they can effectively use it in their classroom.

  10. I haven't done anything this month; but, I would like to try a scavenger hunt that would take students to the different areas (i.e., subject areas, technology, current events, and reference tools).

  11. I have introduced Nettrekker to the students in my school who have been coming in for research lessons. It is the third lesson in the research unit.

  12. During orientation each student was given a hand-out to add to their language arts folder which introduced Nettrekker. Teacher media center folders contained information on Nettrekker. Since that time, we have continued to assist teachers and students with using Nettrekker.

  13. I haven't done anything with NetTrekker yet, but when we begin shortly, we have had lots of success with a couple of different things. Mrs. Wells and I will work together in the computer lab to introduce NetTrekker. We use the topics they are doing in their classes as keywords and then have them find facts. In the media center, I use NetTrekker when I do research lessons. I have classes signed up now for November research lessons. They will be re-introduced to NetTrekker as a great search engine and resource.
